Consultant Psychiatrist with specialist interest in addictive behaviour and drug abuse


Dr Francis Labinjo has set up this service to provide a one-stop service for all aspects of substance misuse, encompassing psychiatric and psychological assessment, diagnosis and treatment. He will carry out the initial assessment and examination and then formulate a plan of treatment which may involve referring patients to a member of a multi-disciplinary team of therapists, including clinical psychologists, psychodynamic psychotherapists, cognitive behavioural therapists, counsellors, stress therapists and hypnotherapists. Dr Labinjo recognises that a wide range of expertise is required especially in the area of stimulant abuse and patients addicted to prescription drugs such as benzodiazepine (diazepam, temazepam) or to pain killers such as opiates and opioids (codeine, dihydrocodeine, cough medicines etc).

  • Alcohol and Substance Misuse, including dependence on prescription drugs

  • Affective Disorders (such as depressive illness)
  • Anxiety Disorders (phobia)
  • Post Traumatic Stress Disorders and Psychotic Illnesses such as Schizophrenia and Bipolar Disorder
  • Forensic Psychiatry including Forensic Substance Misuse and Forensic Dual Diagnosis
  • Child Protection cases
  • Medico-legal reports to Ministry of Justice, Mental Health Tribunals and the Courts

Medico-legal Practice:

Medico-legal work is available as a service both to solicitors and also members of the general public directly. We do provide a service for forensic or criminal work including reports for both criminal and civil legal cases. The fee structure is negotiable for this type of work. They have a wide experience of conferences with barristers and also appearing as expert witnesses in civil courts in a variety of cases.

Lectures:

Dr Labinjo is known on the lecturing circuit and gives lectures to consultant psychiatrists, addiction workers and has given lectures on a variety of psychological topics to a series of different audiences including GP's, other consultant specialists, nurses, other health care professionals, interested voluntary agencies and commissioners. He has also contributed to magazines, such as Drink and Drugs News.
